MEET THE HEAlth Care PROfessionals
At our Health Fair, attendees have an opportunity to meet with a healthcare professional and receive a free 15 minute, HIPAA-compliant consultation through the VSee telehealth platform. During consultations, patients will be able to ask providers any general health questions or concerns that they may have (including but not limited to) nutrition, diabetes management, lifestyle recommendations, COVID-19, and vaccine safety.

Biography
Joanna Josue, FNP-BC, is a family nurse practitioner who grew up in Los Angeles, CA in Eagle Rock. She received her BSN from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and worked at the UCLA-Santa Monica ER for 6 years, then received her MSN from UCLA School of Nursing. As a nurse practitioner, she has worked in a variety of specialties, mostly in the ER and Urgent Care and currently works for Carbon Health and the Beverly Hills Fire Department. She is excited to provide care for the Pilipino Community!

Mr. Sarmiento is the current infectious disease nurse practitioner at Kaiser Permanente and has experience as a LGBTQ+ Nurse Practitioner with a demonstrated history of working in academic medical centers and healthcare settings. He is skilled in Medical/Surgical, emergency medicine, critical Care, Primary Care, HIV, STDs, Infectious Diseases and LGBTQ Health.

Dr. Monica Plesa, MD
Biography
Dr. Plesa is an Assistant Clinical Professor and core faculty member at the UCLA Department of Family Medicine. Born and raised in Southern California, she graduated from UCLA, attended medical school in New York, then returned to UCLA to complete her residency. Dr. Plesa practices full-spectrum Family Medicine but particularly enjoys women’s health, pediatrics, performing outpatient procedures, and working with medical students.

Dr. Arleen Brown, MD, PhD
Biography
Arleen Brown, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research (GIM and HSR) at the University of California, Los Angeles. She serves as Chief of GIM and HSR at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Brown’s research focuses on improving health outcomes, enhancing health care quality, and reducing disparities for adults with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and stroke, particularly those with complex medical and social needs. She has been PI or Co-PI on studies to improve diabetes care for older adults and minority patients and research to understand clinical, socioeconomic, and health system influences on chronic disease management in under-resourced communities.
Dr. Brown also co-directs the NCATS-funded Community Engagement and Research Program (CERP) of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). In this role, she works with teams of community and research priorities are aligned, to promote research in community settings, and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between all stakeholders. She is currently a Principal Investigator on the Healing Our Hearts, Minds, and Bodies (HHMB) study, to address clinic and patient-level readiness to address cardiovascular risk in AfricanAmerican and Latino patients with HIV/AIDS. She also serves as a PI on an NHLBI-funded study to reduce racial ethnic blood pressure disparities among multi-ethnic patients in the safety net using community engagement strategies and behavioral economics. Dr. Brown also leads the NHLBI-funded “Share, Trust, Organize, Partner: the COVID-19 California Alliance” (STOP COVID-19 CA), a coalition of 11 academic institutions and their networks of community partners across California.

Dr. Dinna Cruz, MD, MPH
Biography
Dinna Cruz, MD, MPH is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of California, San Diego. She is an active investigator in the fields of Acute Kidney Injury and the Cardiorenal Syndrome, particularly in the epidemiology of these disorders and potential clinical applications of novel AKI biomarkers. She has worked on several clinical studies on AKI and sepsis, including dialysis in critically ill patients and extracorporeal therapies for endotoxin removal. Her clinical interests include the transitional care of patients after AKI, and those with cardiorenal syndrome.
